Danish Dough

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Warm the milk and melt the butter together, then mix into the dry ingredients. Add eggs and vanilla extract, and mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.

  2. 2

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Make the Filling

In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Melt the butter and set aside.

  4. 4

    Roll the Dough

Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the top.

  5. 5

    Shape the Danish

Roll the rectangle tightly from the long side to form a log, then slice into 12 equal pieces. Place in a greased baking dish.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Cover the dish with a kitchen towel and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Prepare the Icing

In a medium bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.

  9. 9

    Finish the Danish

Drizzle the icing over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve.
