Chili Base

Method

Chili Preparation

  1. 1

    Brown the Beef

In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, stirring occasionally to break it up, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  2. 2

    Add Aromatics

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot with the beef. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

    Mix in Spices

Stir in the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  4. 4

    Add Tomatoes and Broth

Pour in the canned diced tomatoes (with juices) and beef broth, stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  5. 5

    Simmer the Chili

Reduce heat to low and cover the pot. Let the chili simmer for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld, stirring occasionally.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve the Chili

Ladle the chili into bowls. Top each serving with a generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese and a dollop of sour cream. Serve hot.
