Prepare the Glass
Chill a rocks glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water for a few minutes.

In a separate mixing glass, add the sugar cube and Peychaud's bitters. Muddle until the sugar is dissolved and well combined.

Pour the rye whiskey into the mixing glass with the sugar and bitters mixture. Stir gently with ice until well chilled.

Remove the chilled rocks glass from the freezer or empty the ice water. Add the absinthe to the glass, swirling it around to coat the inside, then discard any excess.
