Method

Blending

  1. 1

Chill the milk and ice cream in the freezer for 10-15 minutes if you want a colder shake. Gather all ingredients and measure.

  2. 2

    Add flavoring options

Add 2 tablespoons (1 ounce / 30 ml) of you chosen flavor base: for chocolate, 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder or 1 tablespoon cocoa powder plus 1 teaspoon sugar; for vanilla, use 1 teaspoon vanilla extract; for strawberry, blend ½ cup fresh or frozen strawberries or 2 tablespoons strawberry puree. If using cocoa powder, whisk with a splash of milk to create a smooth paste before adding to the blender.

  3. 3

In a blender, combine milk, vanilla ice cream, flavor base, and ice cubes. Blend on high speed until smooth and creamy, about 30-45 seconds. If the shake is too thick, blend in an extra ¼ cup milk until desired consistency.

  4. 4

    Taste and adjust

Taste the shake and add sugar if needed and to reach preferred sweetness. Blend briefly to incorporate.

  5. 5

    Serve

Pour into tall glasses. If desired, top with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce or strawberry puree. Serve immediately with a straw.
