Hamburger Steak and Sides

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Hamburger Steak

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

Form the mixture into patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

  3. 3

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.

  4. 4

    Prepare Fried Okra

In a separate bowl, toss sliced okra with cornmeal until evenly coated.

  5. 5

Heat oil in a deep skillet. Fry the coated okra in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Cook Field Peas

In a saucepan, add field peas and enough water to cover. Bring to a boil, then simmer until tender, about 20-25 minutes. Season with salt to taste.

  7. 7

    Prepare Candied Yams

In a saucepan, combine candied yams with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Heat until warmed through, stirring occasionally.
