Method
Crust Preparation
- 1
Make the Crust
In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix well.
- 2
Add Butter
Cut the unsalted butter into small cubes and add to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3
Add Water
Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough holds together without being sticky.
- 4
Chill the Dough
Form the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Filling Preparation
- 5
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate and 0.5 cups of unsalted butter over a pot of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.
- 6
Combine Sugar and Eggs
In a large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar and large eggs until well combined.
- 7
- 8
Add Pecans
Fold in the chopped pecans until evenly distributed.
Assembly and Baking
- 9
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 10
Roll Out Crust
On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to fit a 9-inch tart pan, then transfer the dough to the pan, pressing it into the edges.
- 11
Pre-Bake Crust
Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven.
- 12
Add Filling
Pour the chocolate-pecan filling into the pre-baked crust, spreading it evenly.
- 13
Bake Tart
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and a toothpick comes out clean.
- 14
Cool the Tart
Allow the tart to cool completely in the pan before removing it.
Topping Preparation
- 15
Whip Cream
In a mixing bowl, beat heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar with an electric mixer until soft peaks form.
- 16
Serve
Slice the tart and serve with whipped cream, chocolate curls, and chocolate sauce drizzled on top.
