Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Ribeye

Generously season both sides of the ribeye steak with salt and black pepper. Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to allow the seasoning to penetrate.

  2. 2

    Heat the Pan

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering, about 2 minutes.

  3. 3

    Sear the Steak

Add the ribeye steak to the hot skillet. Sear for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it, until a golden-brown crust forms.

  4. 4

    Flip the Steak

Flip the steak using tongs. If using garlic and rosemary, add them to the skillet at this point. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or longer to reach your desired doneness.

  5. 5

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for at least 5 minutes before slicing.

Mashed Potatoes Preparation

  1. 6

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the large potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks. Place them in a pot of salted water.

  2. 7

    Boil the Potatoes

Bring the pot to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  3. 8

    Drain and Mash

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash until creamy and smooth.

  4. 9

    Serve

Scoop the mashed potatoes onto a plate and slice the rested ribeye steak. Serve together for a delicious meal.
