Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a medium bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and brown sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture. Stir until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Boiling

  1. 4

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 5

    Shape the Pretzel Sticks

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 9 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long stick, about 10-12 inches in length.

  3. 6

    Boil the Pretzel Sticks

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil. Add baking soda carefully. Boil each pretzel stick for about 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on the prepared baking sheet.

Baking and Serving

  1. 7

    Add Toppings

Brush each pretzel stick with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

  2. 8

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

  3. 9

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm with spicy mustard and queso cheese dip on the side.
