Method
Preparing Brat Bites
- 1
Cook the Bratwurst
In a large pot of boiling water, add the bratwurst links and cook for about 10 minutes until they are fully cooked through. Remove and let cool slightly.
- 2
Cut into Bites
Once cooled, cut the bratwurst links into bite-sized pieces, approximately 1-inch thick.
- 3
Prepare the Batter
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, beer, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until smooth. The batter should be thick enough to coat the brat bites.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or Dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a bit of batter into it; if it sizzles and rises to the surface, it’s ready.
- 5
Fry the Brat Bites
Dip each bratwurst bite into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place them into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
