Method

Sparkling Water

  1. 1

    Chill and prepare glass

Place a serving glass in the refrigerator or freezer for 5–10 minutes to chill, or fill it with ice and let it sit while preparing ingredients.

  2. 2

    Add ice

If you did not chill the glass, add 4 ice cubes to the serving glass. Leaving fewer cubes will retain more carbonation; adjust to preference.

  3. 3

    Measure and pour sparkling water

Measure 2 cups (about 470 ml) of cold sparkling water and slowly pour it into the glass over the ice to preserve carbonation. Pour gently down the side of the glass if desired.

  4. 4

    Optional citrus and mint

If using citrus, cut 1/4 of a lemon or lime and squeeze the juice into the glass, then drop the wedge in for flavor. Lightly clap 3 mint leaves between your palms to release aroma and add them to the glass.

  5. 5

    Optional sweetening

If you prefer a lightly sweetened drink, add 1 teaspoon simple syrup or your preferred liquid sweetener and stir gently with a long spoon to combine without losing too much fizz.

  6. 6

    Garnish and serve

If desired, sprinkle about 1/4 teaspoon of lemon or lime zest on top or rim the glass with the citrus wedge. Serve immediately to enjoy maximum effervescence.
