Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Soak the Rice

Soak the rinsed rice in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Vegetables

Chop all the vegetables as indicated in the ingredients list and set aside.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.

  2. 5

    Sauté Aromatics

Add sliced onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger to the pot. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.

  3. 6

    Add Spices

Stir in the turmeric powder and biryani masala. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  4. 7

    Add Vegetables

Add the diced carrots, potatoes, green beans, bell pepper, and green peas. Stir well and cook for about 5 minutes.

  5. 8

    Combine Rice and Water

Add the soaked and drained rice to the pot. Follow with 4 cups of water and salt. Stir gently to combine.

  6. 9

    Cook the Biryani

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and water is absorbed.

  7. 10

    Fluff and Serve

Once cooked, turn off the heat and let the biryani sit for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork, garnish with cilantro, and serve hot.
