Dough Ingredients

Optional Toppings

Method

Making the Dough

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

Once the yeast is activated, add the yogurt and olive oil to the yeast mixture, and stir to combine.

  4. 4

    Form the Dough

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the wet ingredients. Gradually mix the flour into the wet ingredients until a shaggy dough forms.

  5. 5

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  6. 6

    Let it Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Cooking the Naan

  1. 7

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to its highest setting (around 500°F or 260°C) and place a baking stone or an inverted baking sheet inside to heat up.

  2. 8

    Shape the Naan

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten it into an oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 9

    Add Toppings (Optional)

If desired, sprinkle minced garlic or chopped cilantro on top of each naan and gently press it into the dough.

  4. 10

    Bake the Naan

Carefully place the shaped naan onto the preheated baking stone or inverted baking sheet. Bake for 3-5 minutes until puffed and golden brown.

  5. 11

    Brush with Butter

Remove the naan from the oven and brush with melted butter for added flavor and shine.

  6. 12

    Serve Warm

Serve the naan warm with your favorite curry or dishes. Enjoy!
