Method
Prep & Rim
- 1
Prepare glass
Chill a rocks or coupe glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail. When ready, discard the ice water and dry the rim lightly.
- 2
Mix Cocktail
- 3
Add tequila, fresh lime juice, orange liqueur, and simple syrup (if using) into a cocktail shaker.
- 4
Fill the shaker with ice (approximately 4 oz or enough to three-quarters fill) and secure the lid.
- 5
Shake vigorously for about 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and slightly frosty.
- 6
Discard the ice from the chilled glass (if any). Strain the cocktail through a fine strainer (or the shaker strainer) into the prepared glass over fresh ice (or serve neat in a coupe if preferred).
- 7
Garnish with the reserved lime wedge on the rim or floated in the drink.
Serve
- 8
Serve immediately. Taste and, if desired, adjust future batches with a little more lime for brightness or 0.25–0.5 oz more simple syrup if you prefer sweeter.
