Calamari

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well to combine.

  3. 3

    Beat the Eggs

In another bowl, beat the eggs until they are smooth and well combined.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot. You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of the flour mixture into it; it should sizzle immediately.

  2. 5

    Coat the Calamari

Dip each calamari ring into the beaten eggs, then dredge them in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.

  3. 6

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully place the coated calamari rings into the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  4. 7

    Fry the Hot Pepper Rings

In the same oil, add the hot pepper rings and fry for about 1-2 minutes until they are slightly crispy. Remove and drain on a paper towel.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate the Dish

Serve the crispy calamari hot with the fried hot pepper rings on the side. You can also serve with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as marinara or aioli.
