Method
Preparation
- 1
Marinate the Tuna
In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
- 2
Combine with Tuna
Place the ahi tuna steaks in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over the steaks. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
Cooking
- 3
Preheat the Pan
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add a little olive oil if necessary to prevent sticking.
- 4
Cook the Tuna
Remove the tuna from the marinade (discard the marinade) and sear the steaks in the hot skillet for about 1-2 minutes on each side for rare, or longer if preferred. The outside should be browned while the inside remains pink.
- 5
Add Sesame Seeds
During the last minute of cooking, sprinkle black sesame seeds over the tuna steaks to toast them lightly.
Serving
- 6
Plate the Dish
Remove the tuna steaks from the skillet and let them rest for a minute. Then slice them against the grain and arrange on a plate.
- 7
Garnish
Sprinkle chopped green onions on top and serve with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the tuna.
