Method
Preparation of Bread
- 1
Slice the Bread
Using a serrated knife, slice the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2 inch thick slices.
- 2
Toast the Bread
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the bread slices on a baking sheet. Brush both sides of the slices with olive oil. Toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
Preparation of Topping
- 3
Chop the Tomatoes
Wash the Roma tomatoes and dice them into small pieces. Place the diced tomatoes into a mixing bowl.
- 4
Prepare the Basil
Wash the fresh basil leaves, pat them dry, and chop them roughly. Add the chopped basil to the bowl with the tomatoes.
- 5
Add Flavorings
Mince the garlic clove and add it to the tomato and basil mixture. Then, add the balsamic vinegar, salt, and black pepper (to taste). Gently mix all the ingredients together until well combined.
Assembly
- 6
Top the Toasts
Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Spoon a generous amount of the tomato and basil mixture onto each slice of toasted bread.
- 7
Serve
Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and serve immediately as an appetizer or snack.
