Wagyu Preparation

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Remove the A5 Japanese Wagyu steak from the refrigerator and let it rest at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Generously season both sides of the steak with sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper. Ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Pan

In a large skillet or cast-iron pan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers but does not smoke.

  4. 4

    Sear the Steak

Place the seasoned steak in the hot skillet. Sear for about 2-3 minutes without moving it, until a nice crust forms.

  5. 5

    Flip and Add Aromatics

Flip the steak using tongs and add butter, crushed garlic cloves, and thyme to the pan. Sear for another 2-3 minutes while basting the steak with the melted butter using a spoon.

  6. 6

    Check Doneness

Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. For medium-rare, aim for 130°F (54°C). If it hasn’t reached the desired temperature, continue cooking for an additional minute or two.

  7. 7

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your liking, remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a cutting board for at least 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  8. 8

    Slice and Serve

Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips and serve immediately, optionally garnished with fresh thyme.
