Method
Prepare the Molten Center
- 1
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
Make the Cake Batter
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

- 4
Combine Batter
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- 5
Add Molten Center
Gently fold the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the batter until evenly distributed.
Bake the Cake
- 6
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- 7
Pour Batter
Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan, filling it about 2/3 full to allow for rising.
- 8
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the outer edges are set, but the center is still soft and slightly jiggly.
