Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 2

    Prepare the Roux

In the same pot, melt 1 cup of butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the all-purpose flour, stirring constantly for about 2 minutes until golden brown.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Slowly pour in the milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Continue cooking until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate Cheeses

Reduce heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and cream cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

Combining Ingredients

  1. 5

    Mix Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until all pasta is well coated.

Preparing Breadcrumb Topping

  1. 6

    Mix Breadcrumb Topping

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, melted butter, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated.

Baking

  1. 7

    Assemble and Bake

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese to a greased baking dish and evenly sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture on top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and crispy.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your creamy macaroni and cheese!
