Taco Shells

Method

Taco Shells Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Add Water

Gradually add warm water to the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.

  4. 4

    Rest the Dough

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  5. 5

    Roll and Shape

Divide the dough into small balls, then roll out each ball into a circle approximately 6 inches in diameter.

Filling Preparation

  1. 6

    Cook the Meat

In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté until translucent.

  2. 7

    Add Meat and Spices

Add ground beef or chicken to the skillet. Sprinkle in chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook until browned.

  3. 8

    Simmer with Water

Pour in 1 cup of water and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the liquid has mostly evaporated and the meat is cooked through.

Cooking the Taco Shells

  1. 9

    Heat Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.

  2. 10

    Fry the Shells

Carefully place a rolled-out dough circle into the hot oil. Fry for about 30 seconds on each side or until puffy and golden brown.

  3. 11

    Drain and Shape

Remove the taco shell from the oil and drain on paper towels. While still warm, gently press the sides to form a pocket.

Assembling Tacos

  1. 12

    Fill the Shells

Once the taco shells are ready, fill each with the cooked meat mixture.

  2. 13

    Add Toppings

Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and sliced jalapeños as desired.
