Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the rigatoni pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Sauce

In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in the marinara sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Cheese Mixture

In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, shredded mozzarella, egg, and chopped basil. Mix until well combined.

Assembling the Baked Ziti

  1. 4

    Layer Ingredients

In a large baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Layer half of the cooked rigatoni over the sauce, followed by half of the cheese mixture. Pour half of the remaining marinara sauce over the cheese mixture. Repeat the layers with the remaining rigatoni, cheese mixture, and marinara sauce.

  2. 5

    Add Topping

Sprinkle the remaining cup of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top layer of marinara sauce.

Baking

  1. 6

    Bake the Ziti

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  2. 7

    Cool and Serve

Let the baked ziti cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious baked ziti!
