Fried Chicken Ingredients

Method

Fried Chicken Directions

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Add the chicken pieces, ensuring they are fully submerged in the buttermilk mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In another bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. This will be the coating for the chicken.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of flour into it; if it sizzles, it's ready.

  4. 4

    Coat the Chicken

Remove the chicken pieces from the buttermilk marinade, letting any excess liquid drip off. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, ensuring each piece is well coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Chicken

Carefully place the coated chicken pieces in the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry in batches if necessary. Cook for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
