Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugars
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Add Eggs and Vanilla
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

Fold in Add-ins
Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.

Scoop Cookies
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.

Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers will look soft.

Remove from oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
