Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil the Water

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Once boiling, add a generous amount of salt (about 1 tablespoon).

  2. 2

    Cook the Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large saucepan over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.

  3. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Combine and Serve

  1. 7

    Toss the Pasta with Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the marinara sauce. Toss well to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.

  2. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Serve the spaghetti hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves. Enjoy your homemade spaghetti with marinara sauce!
