Pasta

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

Fill a large pot with water and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring it to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Penne

Once the water is boiling, add the penne pasta. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 10-12 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the penne pasta in a colander and set aside. Reserve some pasta water for later use.

Making the Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 6

    Add Red Chili Flakes

Stir in the red chili flakes and cook for an additional 30 seconds.

  4. 7

    Add Crushed Tomatoes

Pour in the crushed canned tomatoes and stir well. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.

  5. 8

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Combining Everything

  1. 9

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained penne pasta directly into the skillet with the sauce. Toss well to coat the pasta.

  2. 10

    Add Fresh Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil leaves and mix until well combined.

  3. 11

    Adjust Consistency

If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.

  4. 12

    Serve

Serve the Penne Arrabiate hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
