Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Manicotti

Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large pot. Add 1 tsp of salt to the boiling water.

  2. 2

    Add the Manicotti

Carefully add the manicotti tubes to the boiling water and cook for about 8-10 minutes until they are al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

    Drain and Cool

Once cooked, drain the manicotti and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside on a clean kitchen towel to dry.

Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Mix the Filling

In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, egg, chopped parsley, 0.5 tsp of salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.

  2. 5

    Fill the Manicotti

Using a piping bag or a spoon, carefully fill each manicotti tube with the cheese filling. Make sure to pack the filling well.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat 2 tbs of olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, and 1 tsp of salt to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chopped fresh basil towards the end.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 9

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 10

    Layer the Marinara Sauce

Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.

  3. 11

    Arrange the Manicotti

Place the filled manicotti tubes side by side in the baking dish, then pour the remaining marinara sauce over the top.

  4. 12

    Bake

Cover with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the sauce is bubbly.

  5. 13

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, then serve hot. Optionally, sprinkle with extra Parmesan cheese before serving.
