Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly. Cut them into approximately 1/4-inch thick strips to create fries. Soak the cut fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove as much water as possible.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  4. 4

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried fries to the hot oil. Fry them in batches to avoid overcrowding, cooking for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and let drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste. Toss to coat evenly.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the hand-cut fries hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
