Pizza Dough and Toppings

Method

Preparation and Baking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Pizza

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top, and then sprinkle dried oregano.

  5. 5

    Bake the Pizza

Carefully transfer the pizza onto the preheated stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly. If desired, add fresh basil leaves on top before serving.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, slice, and serve hot.
