Cook the Ground Beef
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Season and Brown the Meat
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Add Spices
Stir in the cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the spices to blend into the meat.

Prepare the Salsa
In a bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, finely chopped red onion, chopped cilantro, lime juice, and salt. If you like heat, add the minced jalapeño. Mix well and set aside.

Assemble the Tacos
Place a generous spoonful of the beef filling onto each tortilla. Top with shredded lettuce and optional cheese and sour cream. Spoon salsa over the top.

Serve
Serve the tacos immediately while warm, with additional salsa on the side.
