Garnish & Glass Prep
- 1
Prepare the rim
Place the granulated sugar on a small plate. Run the lemon wedge around the outer rim of a chilled martini or coupe glass to moisten it, then dip the rim into the sugar and twist to coat evenly. Set the glass aside to allow the sugar to set while you mix the cocktail.

Chill shaker and glass
If not already chilled, fill the martini or coupe glass with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail. Also add ice to a cocktail shaker.
- 3
Measure liquids
Measure 2.5 oz vodka, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.75 oz simple syrup (1:1), and 0.25 oz triple sec into the cocktail shaker over ice.
- 4
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is very cold and the outside is frosty. This chills and slightly dilutes the drink for balance.
- 5
Prepare glass
Discard the ice water from the chilled glass and dab the rim dry if necessary, leaving the sugared rim intact.
- 6
Strain
Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared martini or coupe glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh strainer to remove ice shards and pulp for a clean, silky drink.
