Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker, add 2 oz Jack Daniel's, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.
- 3
Add ice and stir
Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes and stir gently for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full stirs) until well chilled and slightly diluted. If you prefer a slightly more aerated drink, shake briefly for 8–10 seconds instead.
- 4
Prepare serving glass
Discard ice water from the chilled rocks glass (if used) and add one large ice cube or sphere to the glass.
- 5
Strain
Double-strain or fine-strain the mixed cocktail into the prepared glass over the large ice cube to remove any small ice shards or pulp from the lemon juice.
- 6
- 7
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the whiskey-forward character balanced with bright citrus, mild sweetness, and aromatic bitters.
Optional Smoky Variation
- 8
Use smoked syrup
Replace the 0.5 oz simple syrup with 0.5 oz smoked simple syrup to add a light smoked-sugar note that complements the whiskey. Proceed with the same mixing and stirring steps.

Flame orange peel (optional, caution)
If you want a flambéed citrus aroma: hold an orange peel with the outer peel facing a lit match or lighter flame about 6 inches above the glass. Briefly tuck the peel between flame and glass and squeeze to release oils through the flame toward the drink, creating a quick flare. Do this once quickly and safely, then rub the peel on the rim and drop it in. Keep a safe distance and have water nearby.
