Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the whole milk. Beat until smooth and creamy.

  2. 8

    Add Vanilla

Add the vanilla extract to the frosting mixture and mix until fully combined.

  3. 9

    Frost the Cakes

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
