Method

Prepare the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Form the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patties

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness, placing a slice of smoked gouda cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

Make the BBQ Aioli

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, garlic powder, and smoked paprika until well combined.

Prepare the Toppings

  1. 4

    Prepare Lettuce and Tomato

Wash the lettuce and pat dry. Cut the tomato into slices.

  2. 5

    Prepare Shoestring Onions

If using store-bought shoestring onions, have them ready. If making homemade, thinly slice onions, soak in milk, coat in flour, and fry until crispy.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 6

    Build the Burger

Spread a generous amount of BBQ aioli on the bottom half of each burger bun. Place the cooked patty with melted gouda on top, followed by a layer of lettuce, tomato slices, and a handful of crispy shoestring onions. Top with the other half of the bun.
