Directions
- 1
Prepare the Tomato Sauce
Start by preparing the tomato sauce. In a blender, add the San Marzano tomatoes along with a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth but still slightly chunky. Set aside.
- 2
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to the highest temperature, typically around 250°C (482°F). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up as well.
- 3
Prepare the Pizza Dough
On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough into a round shape, approximately 10-12 inches in diameter. Make sure to create a slightly thicker edge for the crust.
- 4
Assemble the Pizza
Spread a thin layer of the prepared tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving about an inch around the edges. Tear the fresh mozzarella into smaller pieces and distribute them evenly over the sauce.
- 5
Add Basil and Olive Oil
Tear the fresh basil leaves and sprinkle them over the mozzarella. Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the top.
- 6
Bake the Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone). Bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and crispy and the cheese is bubbling.
- 7
Finish with Parmesan
Once the pizza is out of the oven, sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the top while it’s still hot. Allow it to cool for a couple of minutes before slicing.
- 8
Serve
Slice the pizza into wedges and serve hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
