For the Tiramisu

Method

Preparation of Tiramisu

  1. 1

    Brew the Coffee

Brew 240 ml of espresso or strong coffee. Set it aside to cool to room temperature.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Cream Mixture

In a medium bowl, whisk together 4 egg yolks and 100 g of granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy. Add 500 g of mascarpone cheese and 1 tsp of vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.

  3. 3

    Whip the Heavy Cream

In a separate bowl, whip 250 ml of heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.

  4. 4

    Soak the Ladyfingers

Dip each ladyfinger briefly into the cooled coffee, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a square or rectangular dish.

  5. 5

    Layer the Mixture

Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the first layer of ladyfingers. Repeat the process with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and top with the remaining cream mixture.

  6. 6

    Chill the Tiramisu

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.

  7. 7

    Serve

Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired. Cut into squares and serve chilled.
