Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4-5 liters of salted water to a boil.
- 2
Cook Spaghetti
Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Reserve a cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti and set aside.
Making the Bolognese Sauce
- 4
- 5
Brown the Meat
Increase the heat to medium-high, add the ground beef, and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
- 6
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- 7
Simmer the Sauce
Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes to develop flavors, stirring occasionally.
- 8
Add Fresh Basil
Stir in the fresh basil just before removing the sauce from heat.
Combining and Serving
- 9
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained spaghetti to the bolognese sauce, tossing to combine. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.
- 10
Serve
Serve the spaghetti bolognese hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
