Vanilla Ice Cream

Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Serving

  1. 8

    Slice and Serve

Once the cakes are completely cool, slice them in half horizontally to create layers, if desired. Stack the layers and frost with your favorite chocolate frosting. Serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
