Blueberry-Ginger Base

Method

Prepare Blueberry-Ginger Base

1

Muddle blueberries

Place the 3 oz fresh blueberries in a cocktail shaker or mixing glass. Add the 1 oz simple syrup and the 0.25 tsp grated fresh ginger (if using). Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently muddle until berries have released their juices but still retain some texture (about 20–30 seconds).

2

Add lemon juice

Pour in 0.5 cups (4 oz) fresh lemon juice into the muddled blueberries. Stir or shake briefly to incorporate and help extract more color and flavor from the berries (about 10 seconds).

3

Double strain

If you prefer a smoother cocktail, pour the blueberry mixture through a fine mesh strainer or double strainer into a clean container to remove seeds and solids. Use the back of a spoon to press remaining juice through. Reserve the strained liquid.

Assemble Cocktail

4

Combine with tequila

Fill a highball or Collins glass with the 1 cup cubed ice. Add 2 oz blanco tequila to the reserved blueberry-lemon mixture and stir gently to combine.

5

Top with ginger beer

Pour 8 oz chilled ginger beer over the tequila-blueberry mixture in the glass. Stir once gently to integrate, being careful not to over-stir so you retain the ginger beer's carbonation.

6

Adjust sweetness and balance

Taste the cocktail and, if needed, add up to an additional 0.5 oz simple syrup to reach your preferred sweetness. Stir gently after adding.

Garnish & Serve

7

Garnish the drink with 6 fresh blueberries threaded on a cocktail pick or dropped into the glass, a lemon wheel or wedge on the rim, and an optional mint sprig. Serve immediately with a straw.
