- 1
Chill glass
Place a rocks glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add Uncle Nearest 1884 Whiskey (2 oz), Licor 43 (3/4 oz), Dry Curaçao (1/2 oz), fresh lemon juice (1/2 oz), simple syrup (1/4 oz), and 2 dashes of orange bitters.
- 3
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted.
- 4
Prepare serving glass
Discard the ice or water from the chilled rocks glass and place a large ice cube or chilled rock into the glass.
- 5
Double-strain
Double-strain the cocktail from the shaker into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube to remove small ice shards and any pulp from the lemon juice.
- 6
Express oil and garnish
Hold an orange peel over the drink and give it a sharp twist to express the oils across the surface, then rub the peel's rim along the glass and drop the twist into the drink as garnish.
- 7
Serve
Present immediately. Sip and enjoy the interplay of the robust Uncle Nearest whiskey with the sweet-vanilla citrus notes from Licor 43 and Dry Curaçao.
