Strudel Filling

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Filling

In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, blackberries, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Toss gently to coat the fruits evenly. Set aside to let the flavors meld.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Phyllo Dough

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lay out one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it lightly with melted butter. Layer another sheet on top and repeat until you have about 5-6 layers.

  3. 3

    Fill the Strudel

Spoon the prepared fruit filling along one edge of the phyllo dough. Roll the dough tightly to enclose the filling, tucking in the edges as you go to prevent spillage.

  4. 4

    Bake the Strudel

Place the rolled strudel seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top with more melted butter. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Compote

While the strudel is baking, prepare the blackberry compote by cooking blackberries with a tablespoon of sugar over medium heat until they break down and become syrupy. Set aside.

  6. 6

    Serve

Once the strudel is baked, let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla gelato and drizzled blackberry compote.
