Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Combine

Add 1 oz Bombay Gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz Dolin Rouge into a mixing glass.

  2. 2

    Add ice

Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes (about 4 pieces) until the glass is mostly full so the drink chills efficiently without diluting too quickly.

  3. 3

    Stir

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture smoothly and steadily for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full spoon rotations) until the outside of the mixing glass feels cold and a small amount of dilution has occurred.

  4. 4

    Prepare glass

Place a large ice cube or sphere into a chilled old-fashioned glass (or rocks glass). If you used large cubes to chill the mixing glass, one large cube in the serving glass is ideal.

  5. 5

    Strain

Strain the stirred cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared serving glass over the single large ice cube.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Express the oils from one piece of orange peel over the surface of the drink by holding the peel skin-side down and giving it a sharp squeeze, then rub the peel around the glass rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve immediately. The cocktail yields one classic Negroni with balanced bitterness and aromatics.
