Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Measure and combine

In a cocktail shaker, pour 2 oz bourbon, 0.5 oz Campari, 0.75 oz sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.

3

Add ice and shake

Add a generous scoop of ice (about 1 cup) to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker feels very cold and the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.

4

Prepare glass and strain

Discard the ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the shaken cocktail into the chilled coupe using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and any pulp.

5

Garnish and serve

Express the oils from an orange twist over the surface of the cocktail by holding the twist about 3–4 inches above the drink and giving it a quick squeeze so the oils spray across the top. Rub the twist around the rim if desired, then drop it into the drink. Serve immediately.
