Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Mix until a sticky dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Lemon-Garlic Butter Preparation

  1. 5

    Melt the Butter

In a saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 2 minutes.

  2. 6

    Add Flavorings

Stir in the lemon zest, chopped parsley, and salt. Remove from heat and set aside.

Focaccia Baking

  1. 7

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a greased baking sheet or pan.

  2. 8

    Shape the Dough

Spread the dough out with your fingers, creating dimples all over the surface. Drizzle half of the lemon-garlic butter over the dough, ensuring it seeps into the dimples.

  3. 9

    Add Topping

Sprinkle Henlopen salt evenly over the top of the dough.

  4. 10

    Second Rise

Let the dough rise again for about 20 minutes while the oven heats.

  5. 11

    Bake

Bake the focaccia in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. 12

    Finish with Butter

After removing from the oven, brush the remaining lemon-garlic butter over the hot focaccia. Let it cool slightly before slicing.
