Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to ensure it is hot enough for baking the lava cakes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Ramekins

Grease four 6-ounce ramekins with butter and lightly dust them with cocoa powder to prevent sticking. Place them on a baking sheet for easy handling.

  3. 3

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

  4. 4

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and salt until well combined.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Add the melted chocolate mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. Then, add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth and fully incorporated.

  6. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Evenly distribute the batter into the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake the cakes in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  8. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool for 1 minute. Carefully run a knife around the edges to loosen them, then invert each ramekin onto a plate. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
