Fried Cheese Curds
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Batter
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix it with the buttermilk.
- 2
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The batter should be thick enough to coat the cheese curds.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat the Cheese Curds
Dip each cheese curd into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
- 5
Fry the Curds
Carefully drop the battered cheese curds into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried cheese curds from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with raspberry habanero jam on the side.
