Caramel Ingredients
Method
Caramel Preparation
- 1
Make the Caramel
In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring gently until the sugar dissolves.
- 2
Once the sugar dissolves, stop stirring and let it boil until it turns a deep amber color, about 8-10 minutes. Be careful not to burn it.
- 3
Quickly pour the caramel into the bottom of a round flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
Flan Preparation
- 4
Blend the Flan Mixture
In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and dulce de leche.
- 5
Blend until smooth and fully combined, about 30-60 seconds.
- 6
Bake the Flan
Pour the flan mixture over the cooled caramel in the mold or ramekins.
- 7
Preheat the oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Prepare a water bath by placing the flan mold or ramekins in a larger baking dish filled with hot water about halfway up the sides.
- 8
Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
- 9
Cool and Serve
Remove from the oven and from the water bath. Allow the flan to cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- 10
To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, place a serving plate on top, and invert. The caramel will flow over the flan.
