Method
Prep & Mix
Chill glass
Place an old-fashioned glass in the freezer or fill with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail (about 5 minutes).
Measure ingredients
Measure 2 oz añejo tequila, 0.5 oz orange curaçao, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz agave nectar. Keep 2 dashes of angostura bitters ready.
Combine and shake
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the añejo tequila, orange curaçao, fresh lime juice, agave nectar and the angostura bitters. Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is icy-cold and well-diluted.
Strain
Strain the shaken cocktail into the prepared old-fashioned glass over the large ice cube using a fine strainer or the shaker's built-in strainer to remove any small ice shards.
Garnish & Serve
Express oils from an orange twist by holding the twist over the drink, skin side down, and giving it a sharp squeeze so the citrus oils spray onto the surface of the cocktail. Rub the twist along the glass rim and drop it into the drink.
Optionally float a lime wheel on the ice or tuck it next to the orange twist for color and aroma.
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the caramel, vanilla and oak notes of the añejo tequila balanced with citrus and bitters.
