Bread Ingredients

Method

Bread Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Allow to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape the Loaf

Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Cover the loaf with a cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until it has risen above the edge of the pan.

  7. 7

    Preheat Oven

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  8. 8

    Bake the Bread

Bake the loaf for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped. Let cool before slicing.

  9. 9

    Serve

Slice the bread into 16-18 pieces and serve warm with butter packets.
