Prepare the Beef Patty
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix until just combined and form into two equal patties.

Cook the Patties
Heat cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. If using cheese, add it on top of the patties during the last minute of cooking to let it melt.

Prepare the Vegetables
While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and onion. Wash the lettuce leaves and set aside.

Assemble the Burger
Toast the burger buns if desired. Place the cooked beef patty on the bottom half of the bun. Layer with lettuce, tomato, and onion. Top with the other half of the bun.

Serve the Lakewood Burger immediately with your choice of sides.
