Method

Preparation of the Base

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat together the milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

Coloring the Batter

  1. 4

    Add Food Coloring

Divide the batter into two bowls. Add black food coloring to one bowl and purple food coloring to the other. Stir until evenly colored.

Baking

  1. 5

    Prepare the Baking Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

  2. 6

    Layer the Batter

Pour the black batter into one half of the baking pan and the purple batter into the other half, creating a marbled effect if desired.

  3. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Glazing and Decoration

  1. 8

    Prepare the Glaze

In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth.

  2. 9

    Glaze the Cake

Once the cake has cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  3. 10

    Add Edible Glitter

Sprinkle edible glitter over the glaze for a ghostly effect.
